Update 7/6/20

Team Member Tests Positive for COVID-19

In our continued commitment to transparent communication with our Villagio of Kerrville family, we are announcing that another team member has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.   This employee has been out of the community since June 22nd and it is believed this individual contracted the virus outside of the community and no residents are at risk.  We have also become aware that two other employees are reporting feeling ill and have been removed from the schedule pending testing.

Currently, no residents are displaying symptoms.  As a reminder all team members are wearing surgical masks and gloves when providing resident care. We continue to take the temperatures of residents and team members and are closely monitoring everyone for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

All federal, state, county, and community standards and protocols are in place for the identification, isolation and eradication of COVID-19 virus in our community. Resident and team member safety is our top priority. The entire community continues to operate under the CDC restricted status of no communal dining, no group life enrichment and only essential care visitors.

We will contact you if your loved one is suspected or diagnosed with COVID-19.

A family hotline number has been set up, just for families, please call 830.266.7993 if you have COVID specific questions.

Please know we are working very hard to ensure the well-being of everyone who lives and works at our community. Together, we will get through this.

Update 7/3/20

Additional Test Results Come Back Negative

In our continued commitment to transparent communication with our Villagio of Kerrville family, we are pleased to share that all pending COVID-19 test results for four associates came back negative. Through contact tracing it was determined that the positive team member did not come in direct contact with any residents. The positive team member is isolating at home as they recover.

Currently, no other employees or residents are displaying symptoms and there are no other community-directed tests pending. As a reminder all team members are wearing surgical masks and gloves when providing resident care. We continue to take the temperatures of residents and team members and are closely monitoring everyone for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

COVID-19 Status Update

We want to inform you that we have received confirmation that a team member has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The team member last worked on June 24th at Villagio of Kerrville.

Personal phone calls are being made to resident families and team members. All team members are wearing surgical masks and gloves when providing resident care. We continue to take the temperatures of residents and team members and are closely monitoring everyone for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. The team member had no direct contact with residents. Currently, no one else is displaying symptoms and there are no additional tests pending.

Town Hall and Updates on Safe Visits

Per directives from the Governor of Texas, our community will not be making any specific changes to visitation until at least the end of the month. We are making plans for safe visits and excursions as soon as state officials allow.

Update 5/29/20

New Procedures for Health and Happiness Visits

We are excited to share some good news. As many states are moving from “Stay at Home” to “Safer at Home” restrictions, Christian Living Communities-Cappella’s leadership team has been working to distill directives and evaluate procedures in order to strike a balance between the crucial need to maintain the physical health of residents with mental health that leads to happiness.

We have developed new procedures pertaining to in-person visits via a plexiglass divider, self-isolation after essential appointments, residents who are able, to drive themselves to essential appointments, and excursions, which vary by community based on virus activity within the community, state regulations, and level of care. In all levels of living, state directives supersede new procedures. Information on what we are preparing for residents and families was shared at our May 28th Family Town Hall Webinar which you can view here.

This is an unprecedented time, and every decision we make is with the health and happiness of residents, families, and team members in mind. We are diligently planning, resourcing materials, and training staff on the new operational procedures. While we are overjoyed that residents can enjoy greater freedoms and in-person family visits, we are still facing a virus that disproportionally affects older adults. We ask that everyone continue to do all they can to stay healthy and be mindful of the risk of exposure to this virus. Residents must stay well for our community to be well.

Update 5/6/20

Villagio of Kerrville COVID-19 Status Update

We are pleased to share that we still have no positive cases of COVID-19 among residents and team members at Villagio of Kerrville. We are incredibly grateful for the diligent efforts of team members to care for and serve our residents through frequent cleaning and sanitizing, delivering meals and more. We continue to ask team members to limit their social exposure as well.

While some services in many states have reopened, the easing of restrictions does not apply to senior living communities. The vulnerable older adult population is still at risk and our highest priority is to keep residents and team members healthy and safe. We understand the desire for families to see their loved ones on Mother’s Day and how hard it will be not to visit face-to-face. Families can call, send cards or flowers. Window visits, car parades, and virtual visits will make the day special and keep everyone safe. Team members in the community are planning to celebrate moms throughout the day.

Update 4/28/20

Continuing CDC Guidelines in our Community

While many cities and states are beginning to relax stay at home restrictions, resident safety remains our utmost concern. Our community will maintain the current level of virus prevention protocols including restricted visitation and use of personal protective equipment as per guidelines from the CDC.

We also continue to ask team members to use social distancing and shelter-at-home measures when not at work. Though it is challenging, especially when the rest of the city or county is loosening restrictions, these steps are intended to ensure the health and safety of everyone who lives and works at our community.

Update 4/8/20

No Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 at Villagio Kerrville

We are happy to update this status and let you know that we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Villagio Kerrville. Also, the State of Texas has issued new directives requiring team members who work directly with positive or presumed positive residents to wear N95 masks. Any one working directly with other residents need to wear medical masks and cloth masks will be worn for those without direct contact. These measures are taken out of an abundance of caution. The team continues extensive virus prevention protocols to help keep EVERYONE who lives and works at Villagio Kerrville safe and well. Update 3/18/20

Villagio Communities Move to Restricted Status

We are now implementing new Centers for Disease Control (CDC) directives as well as regional health suggestions and have upgraded to Restricted Status access for our community during this heightened COVID-19 situation. This means that no visitors will be allowed into the community at this time unless they are part of the required care team for an individual resident. Compassion visits may be accommodated for loved ones of a resident who is actively in an end of life situation. Such visitors will be screened and their temperatures are taken before entering the community.

Additionally, we will no longer host-dining services in our dining rooms starting with breakfast services on 3/19. The resident will have the option of coming to the dining room for a “grab and go” meal or they can choose to receive their meals in their apartments. Life enrichment group activities are also canceled at this time.  Individual life enrichment programs are being implemented.

We know this is difficult news for families and residents. We are doing everything we can to ensure residents are well cared for, but also that they continue to have joy and purpose during these restrictions. These measures are an attempt to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Social distancing and isolation are the only proven way to stop the spread of the virus. We will work with families to help them connect with their loved one via technologies as Face-time, Skype and video conferencing.

Update 3/15/20

Finding Ways to Connect for Older Adults during Social Distancing Directives

They say challenging times bring out the best in people. Anyone who has tried to buy toilet paper recently may disagree with that statement. In a broader sense, however, we see evidence this is true.  Neighbors are reaching out on the Nextdoor social media app offering to purchase groceries and run errands for older neighbors; teachers are providing non-perishable food to low-income students while schools are closed, and most importantly, the majority of Americans are following guidelines for social distancing. Nevertheless, social isolation can bring problems of its own. If you have a family member living in a nursing, assisted living or memory support community, you may be especially feeling that isolation. Fortunately, readily available technology can aid in alleviating some of the loneliness and anxiety about your loved one while helping to build community at the same time.

There are multiple free or very low-cost ways to connect with loved ones through technology. The most obvious and lowest-tech one is the phone. A daily phone call cannot only make your family member feel important, but it is a good way to check up on their mental wellbeing.

Older adults who live in a community can benefit from team members helping them connect via technology with family. If a resident is not comfortable using platforms like Skype or FaceTime to video chat with loved ones, Life Enrichment Coordinators can help them make the video calls. Additionally, Cappella Living Solutions utilizes the OneDay phone application. This is a video sharing app that enables team members to record short videos of residents’ life stories or daily activities and send them directly to family members. They can also share the video to social media when appropriate.

Social media is an excellent way to stay connected. Instagram and Facebook are great visual means for sending messages to isolated family members. In 2018, Facebook launched Watch Parties. A Watch Party is a way to connect and watch an event, program or video with other people and chat via the app.  Recently, churches have used Watch Parties or YouTube Live to connect worshippers with compromised immune systems with their fellow congregants. There are also Facebook groups that focus on common interests, hobbies, and discussion topics. With a little set-up and help, older adults can participate and feel they are a part of a much larger community.

We want to help older adults find purpose in this time of social distancing. We hope this restricted access to assisted living and memory support communities will be short, and family members and loved ones can get back to their normal engaging routines. In the meantime, there are benefits to short periods without distractions. If you want to help, consider sending fun greeting cards to your local senior living community. Have children draw pictures and send letters to residents; they may even get a response letter. Cappella Living Solutions is encouraging residents to start seedlings by providing pots and seeds to grow in their apartments and many similar creative outlets. Great creativity is a bi-product of such times!

Update 3/15/20

Colorado based Villagio of Broomfield implements restricted visitation

We continue to work closely with state and local officials to balance resident safety, team member safety, and access for families and healthcare partners during heightened COVID-19 concerns. While no cases have been identified in Villagio of Broomfield, we are now implementing new CMS and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment directives to restrict access to our assisted living, and memory support neighborhoods. This means that no visitors will be allowed within the assisted living, memory support neighborhoods at this time unless they are part of the required care team for an individual resident. Compassion visits may be accommodated for loved ones of a resident who is actively in an end of life situation. Such visitors will be screened and their temperatures taken before entering the community.

Additionally, CMS guidelines require us to no longer host dining services in our dining rooms; residents will receive their meals in their apartments or suites. Life enrichment group activities are also canceled at this time.

Residential and independent living neighborhoods continue to screen all Guests for symptoms and we are encouraging social distancing. As we have no COVID-19 cases in the community, we continue to welcome new residents into all levels of living.

We are doing everything we can to ensure residents are well cared for, but also that they continue to have joy and purpose during these restrictions. These measures are an attempt to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Social distancing and isolation are the only proven way to stop the spread of the virus. We will work with families to help them connect with their loved one via technologies as Face-time, Skype and video conferencing.  As always, resident’s health and wellbeing are our primary concern.

Update 3/6/20

Coronavirus Preparedness

News of the first fatalities in the US from coronavirus in a Washington State skilled nursing community is understandably causing concern. We care about the wellbeing of residents and team members in the Villagio Senior Living Communities and want to keep you informed on all we are doing to mitigate the impact this virus has on residents and team members. Our clinical team created and implemented policies and procedures specific to coronavirus based on our very effective Norovirus protocol. We regularly schedule briefings with applicable personnel in the communities and we are continuing to monitor information from the CDC and will provide updates as warranted. We are requiring team members who are sick to stay home and ask family members to do the same. We encourage everyone to practice prevention such as frequent hand washing, covering when you cough, not touching your eyes, mouth and nose, and avoiding people who show symptoms. We want residents in all of our communities to continue to enjoy community life and receive compassionate care.
